Frequently Asked Questions

How is therapy done through the pandemic?

Most of the sessions are done in a teletherapy format due to risks of the virus. It is certainly a transition; however, I feel confident that professional alliances are built and changes happen in this format as well.

Why do individuals, couples and families typically seek therapy?

There are various reasons people seek psychotherapy. These include issues such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post traumatic stress disorders, substance use disorders and behavioral addiction. Sometimes it is to gain support while dealing with significant transitions or adversities in life and at other times, it is to better understand the long term impact of familial, cultural, and societal impact on their being. People also seek the therapy to better their ability to communicate, to overcome their fears of self expression, to discover and retell their story so that they can feel a stronger sense of identity, and to become more proficient at creating stable and nurturing bonds with others. As such, the reasons are vast and diverse. Commonality is that most desire to increase their life satisfaction and sociopsychological well-being.

What if I need or want to consider medication as an adjunct to psychotherapy?

Medication can often be helpful in supporting a person to feel a greater sense of well-being. For example, persistent or debilitating depression, ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia would benefit from medication therapy. I will work with you to refer/identify psychiatrists who can work with you. If you wish to consider other methods of symptom management, such as the use of homeopathic or other supportive methods, we will explore those options as well.

How long is a typical psychotherapy session and how often will I meet with my therapist?

Most sessions are weekly and 50-55 minutes in length. Depending on your needs and goals, sessions can be longer or more/less frequent. Couples and family sessions are more likely to vary in length.

How long can I expect to be in therapy?

Several factors may impact the length of therapy. For example, the type of issue addressed, your goals, consistency of attendance, level of motivation to change can influence. In general, recent situational problems can be addressed in fewer sessions than longer-standing issues. I will collaborate with you to define your preference and needs.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

Your active participation and dedication is crucial to your success. To derive the most from psychotherapy, attend your sessions regularly. If you are struggling with excess alcohol or drug consumption, it is generally recommended that you abstain from substance use at least 24 hours before your sessions.

What is your cancellation/Late Policy?

Advance notice of cancellation is expected. This will allow me to offer your canceled time slot to another client. Twenty four hour advance notice is required for cancellations; otherwise, the full amount will be charged.
