Couples Therapy

hands, love, couple

Couples and romantic partners seek psychotherapy for different reasons at various stages of their relationship. Some are dealing with stressful circumstances or relationship dynamics. Sometimes, one or all partners are dealing with mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, or addiction. Many times, each party wants to feel more heard. Couples want to improve communication and strengthen their bond but feel gridlocked.

I use Gottman Couples Therapy and Emotion Focused Therapy. My goal is to assist couples in exploring and expressing their thoughts and feelings more honestly and to guide couples to resolve conflicts with more sensitivity. Whether you are in a gender-diverse, heterosexual, same-sex or polyamorous relationship, psychotherapy can support you and your partner to create a deeper sense of intimacy.

“Once you understand this, you will be ready to accept one of the most surprising truths about marriage: Most marital arguments cannot be resolved. Couples spend year after year trying to change each other’s mind—but it can’t be done. This is because most of their disagreements are rooted in fundamental differences of lifestyle, personality, or values. By fighting over these differences, all they succeed in doing is wasting their time and harming their marriage.”
